Fitness/ Movement
Course | In-depth | Body | Spirit | ROI | Lifers | Lil Lifers | Shy | Backstory
- Tween Lara was at the forefront of the fitness industry, watching fit Mom participate in Jane Fonda's pilot for the first free-weight workout video, and a Richard Simmons' video. By age 7 bought first leotard, not for dance but aerobics, as the only kid in class (at Fonda's, Simmons', Gilda's, Voight's, etc.)
- At age 7 started running around university tracks while Mom trained for 10K's. Preferred dance, but the only option was not-so-fun ballet, so stuck with sports. Became a teenage athlete, winning state awards for soccer.
- At Cornell undergrad, began her health career as a physical therapy assistant, rehabilitating injured athletes (and accepting their dates!)
- During Columbia grad school and for years after, worked as a personal trainer at top NYC fitness clubs (combining "working out" with "working it!")
- Finally found "fun" dance, world dance. Studied many regions for their common movement patterns, and applied exercise science.
- Got her first classes in NYC (Equinox, Crunch) but had to simplify the moves for two left feet, without losing the world essence or its cardio benefits.
- Featured parts on TV. Taught at top LA clubs and to inner-city kids with great reviews. Prepared it for the video set and began talks with investors. But paused the process to learn and teach some modern spiritual work.
- Infused even more spirit (principles of energy) into the sexy moves, for a true body-and-soul workout. Synthesized a lifetime, literally, of personal and professional experience in the fitness industry, for continued teaching.
